While Girl and a Book is primarily for reviewing books, I want to make it easy for you to be a part of it!
If you have a story inside you, I’d love to see you submit it for our Flash Fiction events! By submitting your own piece of flash fiction, you can get your words in front of our engaged community!
So, how do you do that, and what do you get?
How to Submit Your Flash Fiction Story
If you’d like to take part in the regular flash fiction events, I want to hear from you!
If you’re not sure what flash fiction is, it’s simply a genre of fiction that is a very short story (think between 1,000-5,000 words max).
You can write on whatever topic you like, but if you’re looking for inspiration, each month I will post a theme and a set of bonus words below. These are completely optional.
Flash Fiction for May
Theme
- Spring/Mother’s Day
Bonus words
- tulip
- rain
- purple
Notes
Let’s kick off the winter shackles in style with this month’s theme!
Rules for Flash Fiction: By emailing me, you are giving me permission to post to my blog. Not all stories will be selected, but I’ll post my favourites every Friday.
- 1,000-5,000 words
- Must be FICTION. Seems redundant but no true stories please.
- Email subject line contains: FLASH FICTION: Theme, Title, Author Name
- No profanity please. Rules are made to be broken, but not this one.
- Themes and Bonus words are optional; you can use all of them, none of them, or somewhere in the middle.
- Include a brief bio: picture, URL, and 1-3 sentences
There aren’t prizes for the best author or story. This is not a competition. But I do like to send stuff in the mail, so if you’re feeling bold, please send me your mailing address!
You will not be added to any spammy snail-mailing list, and I will not share your information with anyone. I genuinely like to send pretty homemade cards to new friends. Oh, and I may also send you a free bookmark… just sayin’.
Thank you for your interest in being a flash fiction entrant – I look forward to hearing from you!
