This book is difficult to review, to be honest. I really enjoyed the premise, because who doesn’t like a good zombie novel?
M.R. Carey is easy to read, and I did find the book to be a page-turner. Since reading this novel, I have since bought two more books by this author and plan to read them in the near future. So this is a big win.
I liked the writing style, and the twists and turns. The overall story had an Alfred Hitchcock feel, or at least a Hitchcock ending.
What I didn’t like about this book is that I didn’t really like any of the characters. The beginning has you rooting for a couple of the main characters (teacher and girl), but by the end, I just wasn’t attached to them and I didn’t really care if they lived or died.
This is why I’m having trouble reviewing “The Girl with all the Gifts”. Overall, I’d recommend it. If you like zombies and/or post-apocalyptic stories, this is a great book.
If you like easy thrillers, this is a good choice.
If you like character-driven underdog stories, I’d say, give this one a miss.
