The Spies that Bind is the prequel to The Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter.
I came across this short story on Audible and listened to it with my son on our travels.
This is a Middle Grade read, and so I thought I’d ask my son for his opinion.
Here’s his unedited review:
I liked the part where they rescued Liz because there were exploding balls and that was cool. I hated Tina Walters because she was mean and a bully. I liked how the main character went from normal to spy.

Alright, my son is 12 years old. He hates to write, so this was challenging enough. If you like the Nancy Drew series, this is sorta like Nancy Drew meets Harry Potter.
Not that there’s any magic, but a school where they train young girls to be spies is pretty cool. You’ve got your normal schoolyard drama, plus G-rated hand grenades.
Overall, I’d recommend this story to any young reader, and I do plan to read the rest of the series at some stage too.
If you’ve read (or listened to) The Spies That Bind, or any other novel by Ally Carter, let me know what you think over in the Facebook group.
